Thank You!

Check out Justin Brisbane’s great article in the Rocky Mountain Outlook about my retirement here. There is also an article on Faster Skier here. Wrapping up my biathlon career, there are so many people that have contributed so much to it. In no particular order, I’d like to give a special thanks to: -All my coaches over the years:  Roddy Ward, Matthias Ahrens, Richard Boruta, Jacqueline Akerman, Geret Coyne, Kathy Davies, Petr Zidek,  Alain Parent, and the many more who’ve

Season Recap

Dinner in Laos beside the Mekong River

Hello! It’s been awhile since I’ve made an appearance in the blogging world, so it’s probably about time I post an update on the biathlon-related developments in my life. The beginning of the season back in November and December was a bit of a struggle for me to find some energy and some ski speed. This wasn’t surprising after a sub-par training season, due to a variety of reasons, many of which my coaches and I still don’t completely understand.

Rollerski Treadmill

Rollerski still

One of the most exciting things to come to the Canmore Nordic Centre this year has been a brand-new Rollerski Treadmill.  This is not a typical treadmill you would see in a gym, but is an extra-large treadmill that is wide enough to accomodate athletes on rollerskis and is capable of simulating steep uphills up to 20% grade. A lot of media came out to the official launch of the treadmill in September, and you can check out these links

A brief look at my winter ahead…

Dog sledding in Whitehorse, Canada, March 2006

After another summer of hard training and lots of shooting, I’m excited to test out my skills and fitness against the rest of the world! Since placing 4th on the IBU Cup last season my eye is on the podium! Also on the radar is gaining more World Cup experience and going to the World Championships in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic in February.   The racing season will start in Sweden with IBU Cup races in Idre on November 24

Fall in Park City

Me, Zina Kocher, Rosanna Crawford, and Scott Gow after a 2.5 hour rollerski up the Mirror Lake Highway near Kamas, Utah, ending at an elevation of 10,759 feet (about 3300m). We were definitely feeling the thin air up there!

Our team headed down to Park City, Utah for a fall training camp at the beginning of October. I made the trek to Park City last year and it was definitely one of my favorite camps ever, so I was happy to return! It’s so beautiful in the fall with all the leaves changing colors, and there are amazing trails and roads for rollerskiing all over the place.

I recently raced in the North American Summer Biathlon Championships in Canmore on September 8 & 9, placing 2nd both days in the Sprint & Pursuit races. The volunteers put on a great event and we had gorgeous weather. It has got me excited about the coming racing season! Some pics from the event, courtesy of Ric Rowan.

The Haig Glacier

Helicopter Ride into the Haig Glacier near Canmore, Canada, September 2012 with Kathy Davies & Pate Neumann

Life as a skier in Canmore wouldn’t be complete without the requisite trips to the Haig Glacier for some summer skiing. For an idea of what the glacier is all about, check out this article written by our local sports reporter Justin Brisbane for the Rocky Mountain Outlook. I made two trips up to the glacier this summer, one in July and one in September. This was the first year I had the luxury of being flown to and from the

Welcome to my new website!

arctic-course

With a new season, a new website! I have had a very busy summer, training and working, and it will only get busier this winter, as I head to Europe for races! I will do my best to update you on everything I am doing, and try to take photos with my fancy new phone, but in the meantime, check out the gallery on this site, where I have uploaded a bunch of older photos, some of which have never
